The four states of a button are: up, over, down, and hit (“Hit” is invisible to the user – defines the area of the button that is reactive to the mouse and makes the mouse clickable)
The four types of buttons are: basic – looks the same in the up, over and down state rollover – changes in appearance in the up, over and down state animated rollover – same as rollover but has a movie clip instance that is displayed in (usually) the over state invisible – contains a blank keyframe in the “up” state and a keyframe in the “hit” state; contains artwork in the “over” and “down” state, but not in the “up” state. The button is invisible until the user mouse over it.
