Getting Started: Button Review (activity 1)
previous page next page

rollover button

  1. Workshop: open activity1.fla
  2. The four states of a button are:
up, over, down, and hit (“Hit” is invisible to the user – defines the area of the button that is reactive to the mouse and makes the mouse clickable)

  3. The four types of buttons are:
basic – looks the same in the up, over and down state
rollover – changes in appearance in the up, over and down state
animated rollover – same as rollover but has a movie clip instance that is displayed in (usually) the over state
invisible – contains a blank keyframe in the “up” state and a keyframe in the “hit” state; contains artwork in the “over” and “down” state, but not in the “up” state. The button is invisible until the user mouse over it.
Getting Started: Rollover Buttons with text (activity 2)

rollover with text

  1. Workshop: open activity2.fla
  2. When creating your rollover buttons with text, use two layers: one for the triangle and one for the text.
  3. Watch the animation to see suggested ways to alternate your color and triangle.

PRACTICE: Once you've created a "home" button, duplicate that button, then create these additional buttons. Be sure to adjust the "hit" state area to correspond with the length of each word:
